Victim Assistance Services

Nevada’s Victim Services and Programs

Nevada's victim services have evolved to provide essential support to individuals affected by crime, domestic violence, and sexual assault. Historically, various public agencies, non-profits, and community-based organizations have worked to offer direct assistance, shelter, legal advocacy, and crisis intervention.

Recognizing the need for a coordinated approach, the Nevada State Legislature has implemented funding and oversight structures to ensure services reach victims effectively. Through the Victims of Crime Act (VOCA), Family Violence Prevention and Services Act (FVPSA), and the Aid to Victims of Domestic Violence or Sexual Violence Fund, Nevada ensures comprehensive victim support across all counties.

Nevada's victim service programs operate across multiple regions, with state and county collaborations ensuring funding, quality assurance, and service delivery. State agencies oversee technical assistance, fiscal oversight for federal and state funds, and improvements in victim advocacy initiatives.

Victim support services encompass a continuum of care, ranging from emergency crisis shelters and legal aid to mental health counseling and long-term rehabilitation. Programs are tailored to support victims and their families, including children affected by domestic and sexual violence. Services include emergency response, legal representation, psychological support, community-based intervention, and specialized care for vulnerable populations.

The Nevada victim service framework is designed to ensure equitable access to support resources, enhance survivor outcomes, and foster a safer community through effective intervention and prevention strategies.
