NYTC/Independence High School (IHS)

Independence High School is an accredited school through Advanced Ed. which employs full time licensed/certified teachers year round. Students at NYTC/I.H.S. are given MAPs testing to determine academic levels and special needs. Individualized education plans are developed for each youth. Students are given the opportunity to earn credits and get back on track academically.

Nevada Youth training Centers Mission & Goal

Nevada Youth training Centers mission is to “To offer an environment that promotes positive self-growth; creates changes of behavior, attitude, values, and thinking by participating in programs of education, vocation and therapeutic treatment.” The goal is to assist students in obtaining their High School Diploma or receive their General Equivalency Diploma.

Educational and vocational programs

Educational and vocational programs that are offered include required and elective academic subjects, remedial programs, special education, vocational education and interscholastic activities. Career and Technical Certifications and training are available in Culinary, Computer Technology, Employability Skills, Career Exploration, Laser and Printing Technology, Small Engine Repair, Construction Trades, Welding, Heavy Equipment and Diesel Mechanics. Nationally recognized certifications are available in food science (Serv Safe Starter) and Managerial Programs.

NIAA Athletics Program

Youth can participate in a year round NIAA athletics program, which includes seasons and postseason tournaments of basketball, track, wrestling and football. NYTC asks 100% participation of youth unless they are medically ineligible to participate. We strive to teach youth the importance of sportsmanship, participation, teamwork, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Classroom Sizes

The small size of the classes allows teachers to better meet the needs of students with learning difficulties, substance abuse issues, and/or other special needs.
